EWP electrodes provide good stability when used with balanced wave or continuous high frequency stabilized alternating current. They can be used with direct current and also with argon or helium, or a combination of both, as shielding gases. They maintain a clean, collected tip, which is preferred for welding aluminum and magnesium. Lower current carrying capacity than other electrodes
EWP electrodes have very good resistance to contamination of the weld metal by the electrode, although the oxide containing electrode is superior in this respect. They are generally used in less critical applications, except for welding aluminum and magnesium. Low cost EWP electrodes can be used for less critical applications where some tungsten contamination of the welds is acceptable.
