BAR-MITSVA LIVRE POUR GRANDIR
What is the relationship between young Guayaki Indians and the bar mitzvah rite? What does it mean to be Jewish? What does the boa of Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince represent? To be is to grow! It’s becoming… and developing the strength to always invent yourself differently. In all civilizations, the end of childhood and entry into the world of adults constitute a stage whose stakes are decisive. It is marked by rites of passage which allow the individual to be fully welcomed into a society to share its founding values, guarantee them and transmit them. In Judaism, this whole symbolism of “growing up” is called “bar mitzvah”. Around an act of reading and interpretation, with a concern for the right gesture, the bar mitzvah allows the emergence of critical thinking and responsibility towards oneself, others and the land that welcomes us. By offering a commentary on the bar mitzvah which sheds light on its universal significance, the authors underline how the discovery of this ancestral rite allows us to think about the current affairs of our world.
